Downtown Salem, Oregon
Save the dates!
The First Annual Summer in
the City Music and Wine Festival is coming to downtown
Salem, Oregon, on August 9 and 10, 2008. The event, organized
by Go Downtown Salem! will
raise funds for Marion-Polk Food Share, the non-profit
charity organization leading the fight to end hunger in Marion
and Polk counties.
The family friendly festival has something for everyone.
Listen to the “can’t be missed” Willamette Valley bands that
will be there and dance
in the streets! View fabulous art
created by local artist. Taste the best of the Willamette
Valley wines or relax in the beer garden. Children can play at
the Kids Court, an area dedicated to fun activities for the
young – or young-at-heart. Food and shopping will be aplenty
throughout the festival area. A short walk to Riverfront Park
will take you to a great car show.
Summer in the City Objectives
The First Annual Summer in the City Music & Wine Festival will
raise funds for Marion-Polk Food Share and celebrate the
community’s vision for Salem’s City Center. The objectives
are: Provide outstanding local
musical entertainment;
•Showcase local art and artists; Feature top quality local wineries; Provide multiple opportunities to shop and dine; Maximize economic benefits for Salem business; Highlight Salem’s historic downtown; Create a family friendly atmosphere!
The festival is located in the heart of Salem’s Historic
Downtown District, which offers excellent restaurants and
unique shops, boutiques and galleries. All are located within
walking distance of the main festival grounds.
Mayor Janet Taylor is thrilled festival planning is
underway. “The Summer in the City Music and Wine Festival is a
wonderful opportunity for the City of Salem to showcase our
vibrant downtown and support Marion-Polk Food Share. This is
the type of event that makes Salem a fun place to live.”
Go Downtown Salem! has been a key partner in the
Salem Vision 2020 planning process. More than
3,000 residents responded to Salem Vision 2020
surveys, a majority asking for more festivals and activities
in the City Center. The Summer in the City Music and Wine
Festival is a direct result of the call by Salem residents for
a vibrant destination. |

The car show will be on the Sat 8/9 from 12 to 4 in the
Riverfront Park next to the Carousel. Admission for car
participants is food (canned or packaged) to be donated
to Marion Polk Food Share. The best of show car judging
(voted on by the public) will be determined by the most
canned food the public places by their favorite car. I
can of food = one vote. Car participants should
encourage their fans to come prepared with lots of
"canned votes". Canned food will be available to
purchase at the car show for those who may not have food
but want to vote.
