Summer in the City Music
and Wine Festival August
2009

Hot
town Summer in the City Salem-style. The streets in Downtown will be
closed August 15 and 16 to some of summer's best times. Take a
"Staycation" locally, and save gas, plus experience 21 different Oregon
wineries all in one Wine Pavilion! The entertainment is off the charts
with local and regional top names. Headlining is Charlie Musselwhite and
joined with Curtis Salgado, Pepe and the Bottle Blondes, Aaron Meyer,
Sunny Hess and Women in Blues, Gary Burford Big Blues Brass Band, Big
Monti, and more. 20 bands fill the weekend schedule.
Three entertainment pavilions await your
summer spirit. For the
more adventuresome visit Hornitos Garden of Agave
for tequila-tasting, coconut-bowling, a little bit of reggae by Rhythm
Culture and find your place in the sun. American Idol's "Bikini Girl"
Katrina Darrell will be on site for autographs and will be singing in her
first performance since American Idol. The featured cantina in Garden of
Agave will be La Margarita Company celebrating 25 years Downtown Salem.
Other activities include a car show in
Riverfront Park. Plan to bring cans of food and use them to vote for your
favorite car. Help raise food for Marion Polk Food Share.
Sixteen
(16), eateries will be available as well as over 60 downtown restaurants.
Downtown merchants will have the biggest sidewalk sale of the year-this is
in the free zone. Toast the summer heat in the street with a cold brew
within the Beer Pavilion. Bpong tournaments (H2O) will be in play. For the
more sit back and relax type there will be table games of cribbage,
backgammon, and more.
Feeling a bit lucky? Texas Hold Em
tournaments will take place in the Garden of Agave. $50.00 buy in and 2

Athletes, the challenge is on and all for
a good cause. Shoot hoop, throw a pass, or compete in the bungee run or

Nothing tastes better than BBQ on a hot
summer day. Adam's Ribs joins the competition as son vs. dad cook-off the
best Adam's style.
The free-zone will have entertainment for
the littler ones. Train rides, bouncy houses, and the biggest sandbox in
town. 
Celebrate the last days of summer in
beautiful Historic downtown Salem. For a small entry fee you can enjoy all
three entertainment pavilions. Adults $10 on Saturday and $7.50 on Sunday.
Students 16 and older $5.00 with student id. $1.00 for each adult ticket

Go Downtown Salem! has been a
key partner in the
Salem Vision 2020 planning process. More than
3,000 residents responded to Salem Vision 2020
surveys, a majority asking for more festivals, activities and
live music events in the city center. The Summer in the City Music and Wine
Festival is a direct result of the call by Salem residents for
a vibrant destination. |
