Downtown Salem, Oregon

Summer in the City Music and Wine Festival August 2009

Hot town Summer in the City Salem-style. The streets in Downtown will be closed August 15 and 16 to some of summer's best times. Take a "Staycation" locally, and save gas, plus experience 21 different Oregon wineries all in one Wine Pavilion! The entertainment is off the charts with local and regional top names. Headlining is Charlie Musselwhite and joined with Curtis Salgado, Pepe and the Bottle Blondes, Aaron Meyer, Sunny Hess and Women in Blues, Gary Burford Big Blues Brass Band, Big Monti, and more. 20 bands fill the weekend schedule.

Three entertainment pavilions await your summer spirit. For the more adventuresome visit Hornitos Garden of Agave for tequila-tasting, coconut-bowling, a little bit of reggae by Rhythm Culture and find your place in the sun. American Idol's "Bikini Girl" Katrina Darrell will be on site for autographs and will be singing in her first performance since American Idol. The featured cantina in Garden of Agave will be La Margarita Company celebrating 25 years Downtown Salem.

Other activities include a car show in Riverfront Park. Plan to bring cans of food and use them to vote for your favorite car. Help raise food for Marion Polk Food Share.

Sixteen (16), eateries will be available as well as over 60 downtown restaurants. Downtown merchants will have the biggest sidewalk sale of the year-this is in the free zone. Toast the summer heat in the street with a cold brew within the Beer Pavilion. Bpong tournaments (H2O) will be in play. For the more sit back and relax type there will be table games of cribbage, backgammon, and more.

Feeling a bit lucky? Texas Hold Em tournaments will take place in the Garden of Agave. $50.00 buy in and 2 $25.00 re-buys may help you win a $1000 Prepaid Visa gift card. Top 6 places win and a new tournament each day. Register in advance if you wish at AbsolutelyTix.com.

Athletes, the challenge is on and all for a good cause. Shoot hoop, throw a pass, or compete in the bungee run or obstacle course. Suggested donations benefit Marion Polk Food Share.

Nothing tastes better than BBQ on a hot summer day. Adam's Ribs joins the competition as son vs. dad cook-off the best Adam's style.

The free-zone will have entertainment for the littler ones. Train rides, bouncy houses, and the biggest sandbox in town.

Celebrate the last days of summer in beautiful Historic downtown Salem. For a small entry fee you can enjoy all three entertainment pavilions. Adults $10 on Saturday and $7.50 on Sunday. Students 16 and older $5.00 with student id. $1.00 for each adult ticket benefits Marion Polk Food Share.
